Work Taster experience leads to career opportunity for Simon

Simon Jukes Simon Jukes was studying for a Masters degree in History when he decided to apply for a GO Wales Work Taster in Marketing and PR to gain further experience in that field.  Simon tells us more about why he decided to apply for a Work Taster…

The role description for the Work Taster seemed as though it was really well organized and would give me the opportunity to learn new things as well as to write press releases.

My taster placement was with Sedna Lighting in Cardiff, who specialize in supplying LED lighting for the global market. In this role I had the opportunity to learn about SEO, Google page ranking, PR campaigns, marketing tools and press release layout. I was given the freedom to research particular topics and construct my own press releases, some of which were published in trade magazines and online.

After completing his Work Taster experience, Simon has gone on to develop his skills and gain new opportunities to further his career…

I was very impressed by how well setup and organized Sedna was in regards to my placement. It was a friendly environment to learn and gain valuable experience about PR campaigns. I really enjoyed the opportunity to write press releases, one of which was published in a trade magazine and online.
I feel that I learnt a lot over the 5 weeks and I have recently started a placement through GO Wales as a Marketing Assistant with The British Plant Nursery Guide based in Monmouth.
